October came & went!

Well October came and went like a bat out of hell! hahah

My goal every October, and the way I like to celebrate Halloween the most is usually by watching scary movies and Halloween specials on TV. This year it was a little different because I don’t have cable. I have Netflix! So I decided, for the whole month of October I would watch as many horror movies etc. as I could! hahaha….at one point it got a bit ridiculous in that I would try to watch more than one movie an evening when i would get home late from work. That was a mistake and I tanked quickly! So I decided all movie watching had to end by 11 pm no matter what so as to get enough sleep and be able to function properly on a daily basis. So the cut off time for starting a movie was between 9- 9:15 pm. That worked well.

I also bought passes to the Toronto After Dark Film Festival and got to watch 8 more movies!! Some were better than others…I only had to literally walk out of one…it was so bad……!

In total I think I had to have watched well over 30 movies for the entire month! Super fun! Apparently there is another shorter film festival for horror movies this month (November)! I may check all or some of those movies out too!

I am happy October Movie watching is over now though. I have been superbly procrastinating on doing an online course through the CHEK Institute (Paul Chek a major fitness guru world renowned). Time to get on it!

I hope you all had a great October and a Happy Halloween! Time to make November productive!

A Wonderful Reunion

A few weeks ago I went to a reunion lunch that I organized which took I think 3 months to make happen!

The group, some of my very first Belly Dance Students from maybe 7-10 years ago! We all became friends at one point, and then as everyone started getting married and some having kids, life got hectic and we all parted ways. When we saw each other was at our weddings and some baby showers. We all followed each other through Facebook, but one day I decided, I wasn’t seeing enough of different groups of friends. Part of my life now is rekindling friendships from the distant past that were meaningful to me which just got sidetracked with life.

It was a really nice afternoon. We went to spring rolls downtown. Everyone talked about their kids which was really entertaining. I don’t have kids by choice, so i listen and enjoy, and they all listen to my crazy life. haha

My life full of Martial Arts, Dance, Fitness and Partying. I would like to start adding Travelling back into that list!

We all decided that we should try and meet every 6 months now. I suggested every 3 months, and we decided maybe if we try for every 3 months we will actually meet every 6 months.

Sometimes bonds we create with people when we are younger become just as good if not better later in life. I look forward to rekindling these connections further.

I am just sitting at Starbucks on my morning break before heading back to CoreFit Training to train my clients. Its beautiful and sunny and could not ask for anything more. Well….except for a vacation!! hahahakeep calm the reunion is soon

Transitions

I have not written here in a while. So much has been going on! There have been a lot of life changes over the past little while. Some good, some appearing not to be good. But really, sometimes things that don’t seem positive are just disguised that way.

I am super happy to be really busy with personal training again. It took me about 2 years to rebuild my clientele up to where it was before I left working for a large corporation. I am happy because I am now able to help a lot of people, and income is not a worry anymore. I do miss having a lot of spare time, but the good thing about being really busy is that, I stay way more organized. I am actually able to accomplish many more things on a daily and weekly basis as well.

In January I returned to flamenco dancing after what I was told about a 2.5 year break! Man, I am never taking that long a break from flamenco ever again. I have a show coming up in August! Excited, yet scared at the same time as i have not done a stage show/recital in either Flamenco or Belly Dance in years! That is ok…i will rock it man! hahaha

Been through some injuries as well…but I am finally getting my body back to normal which means I can train myself again, I can get back into muay thai hopefully full force again and I can keep dancing!

I now just need to find the moment for my next small, medium and large vacations! I need to get away!

As I sit at my desk typing this, i am listening to the sound of the rain falling outside my window and a bus going by. Just waiting to finish my laundry and then make dinner and meal prep for the next couple days.

I have some exciting things coming up!

  • Reunion Lunch with a group of girlfriends who were my very first serious bellydance students ever
  • Flamenco Juerga (Party) hosted by my flamenco dance teacher Carmen Romero
  • My mom’s 76th birthday

Until then…..

I don’t train bodybuilders myself, but am proud to actually be a part of the elite team of trainers at CoreFit. I train people in different disciplines and at CoreFit we train people from all walks of life. We train people from the teen-aged years up to people in the 80s!! I train for general weight-loss, muscle building and strengthening. Within my methods I have also provided rehab, and i teach people how to change their lifestyles so they improve their overall health.

Power Up Yoga Retreat!

I am excited to attend this retreat this coming Saturday! I attended one at the end of March and it was pretty amazing. I loved it so much that this time around when I saw Melissa Major looking for volunteers for the day in exchange for attending I jumped on that opportunity.

In the past, I would pass up so many opportunities because I was scared, insecure etc. Now I don’t care! Any opportunity is a positive life experience work taking!

If you live in Toronto, you should check it out and see if there is still some space!Power Up Poster

New York in April

Earlier this month I took a mini vacation down to New York to visit my sister.  Aside from the crappy flight with Delta, my time in New York was fantastic! It was actually the first time my sister and I hung out alone together since being adults. Imagine. She is 37 and I am 42 and we haven’t just hung out together alone since we were probably kids.

I am super happy we did. Its like a new found life long friend. Weeee!

With the weather being just a little bit warmer than it was here in Toronto that weekend, it was absolutely perfect, and really helped me to rest and relax.

We did a lot of walking, a lot of talking, a lot of eating of great food!

We went to the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, Red hook for Drag Queen Karaoke, the High Line, and to a park in Chelsea.

I got a lot of rest except for the last night there.

I love my sister!

Here are some great pics from that weekend.

Frustration

Don’t you just love when you get involved in something that at first you do just for fun, then you decide you want to become more serious about it?  YES, me too!!

Don’t you just hate it when there are obstacles that make it harder to progress? YEAH, me too!!

I have been studying Muay Thai for about 2.5 years now. I have gone through periods of great growth, plateau periods, and periods where I start to decline due to injuries, being ill or bouts of depression.

I have just started coming out of a decline period…and its so frustrating that my work schedule doesn’t allow me to do any of my instructor’s evening classes. So, I am limited to one weekday and one weekend day. If I can at least stay consistent in those two classes for 1-2 months I know I will be able to grow in MT again. But I know that in April I am going away for one weekend. And I have also learned, that if I take one Saturday a month where I don’t do much of anything and just relax and do self-care, everything else becomes that much better.

I also really want to start learning Jujitsu, but it’s really hard to find a school that has the most convenient location and schedule together which matches with my work  availability.

All that fits my schedule now is boxing. This could be good to learn too, so I may have to go that route for now.

I guess it’s just a matter of being patient, and when a schedule change in my work life opens up, I immediately will jump on the chance to fit something in that I want.

A few months ago, I had a schedule change on a Thursday evening…but the change still wasn’t allowing for the class start time (6pm i think) for my instructor’s Thursday night Muay Thai class. That class started too early still. But I took the chance to bring back my Flamenco Dancing, because that class starts at 8pm;  allows me to still get there.

Oh well. As long as I get to do the things I love everything will get better. I should be grateful I can even take part in things that require me to use my body in different high intensity ways!!

WOOHOOO!!! 🙂
