Well, it looks like its that time of year again! I am going to say, I don’t feel quite as confident in my Advanced Dance Class piece – Tarantos – as I did in all of my dance pieces last June, but it will definitely still go well.
The reason I don’t feel as confident comes from the fact that, I took the fall term off. I returned in January 2019 to find that the class had already learned almost half the choreography. This was the second year I had to catch up in learning a piece. Last year’s piece I learned from day 1 and our group practiced weekly so the chemistry in class and on stage made for 4 very confident dancers.
I also decided to reconnect with learning Flamenco Cante (singing). This year will be the first year I sing on stage…and, its in Spanish! I am pretty excited about that, but, there is one song we are learning out of all of them that for all of us seems so hard to memorize compared to all the others. My goal this week was to have half of that song memorized by tomorrow. I have it half memorized and its a day early. So I have full confidence that by the show next Friday, I will have that entire song memorized.
I am a little stressed, but over all, these shows are fun. The full school rehearsals start tomorrow!
I was on quite a roll for a while with sending out email campaigns to my mailing list, creating new blogs, and working on website content. Then I had to stop. For a couple weeks I felt that if I sent any emails out, tried to produce any new blogs or continue working on website content that it would not be good quality.
My mind just wasn’t in the head-space that was required to develop good quality content. Anything I create I have to think is fairly permanent, and so it has to be good. It does not make sense, pushing out loads of stuff if it doesn’t come out as my authentic self, sincere and sounds like I actually care.
This is a lesson for everyone. Quality far outweighs Quantity. However, if a person’s mind set is in the right place, it is entirely possible to push out Quantity with Quality.
Think about your own lives. How have you fared with this? We all have different lives, careers, personal lives etc. Do you ever sacrifice quality for quantity? Do you know how to step back and assess what is going on and know that sometimes it is OK to just stop and take care of yourself?
I have re-developed my ability to tap into my deep gut intuition, and it told me to just stop all work on my business (back end work). For the past couple weeks I have just been working in my business training my clients, but not pushing myself to work on all the behind the scenes stuff so much. When my feelings are geared this way, I go to work, I workout, I go to all the classes I take because they are part of how I stay healthy and true to myself and sane. Healthy nutrition, quality sleep and doing things to pamper yourself are all important too.
When I first make the decision to step back, I usually get really stressed out because I feel like, OMG, I will get behind, I won’t be able to grow my business fast enough, OMG OMG OMG….hahaha. Yeah you see, how the mind works? The mind is powerful…it can make or break you. And if you decide to keep on going when you shouldn’t, that is when you actually sacrifice quality work.
In the end, sacrificing quality work is a sacrifice in moving yourself forward in anything you do whether you own your own business, whether its a school project, or anything else important. If you give yourself the time to work through whatever it is you need to do to get yourself back to a healthy state of mind, you’ve already won. You are already further ahead than you would have been had you tried to pump out quantity at the expense of quality and your health.
So, this is how we will be starting June. I want everyone to think about their current mental, physical, emotional and spiritual levels. Are they all at a 10 out of 10?? If not, what do you need to do to shift your scores to the right so they become a 10 out of 10?
I am sure at some point in your life and maybe even many times in your life you have been put into a position where all you can do is wait.
How you choose to spend that wait time is up to you.
My suggestion is, sure wait, but don’t put your life on hold for anything or anyone.
Spend time doing things that are meaningful to you. Reconnect with friends, try something new. Enjoy life!!!
Main thing is, try not to get stuck in a negative downward spiral feeling like life can’t continue until whatever or whoever you are waiting on is ready for the next move, next idea or next step, whatever that may be.
When things are “ready” they will happen
It’s like waiting for a pot to boil….lol. It will boil when the temperature is hot enough …..
Life wouldn’t be life without these moments. Embrace it, and enjoy what happens when you do

I forgot to mention in my video about the women who talked about their stories where they had dealt with serious health issues almost their whole lives, always wondering no matter what supplements they took (and they took everything you can imagine recommended), why nothing seemed to work.
Part of this is because a lot of supplements out there are Food Grade. There are Food Grade and Pharmaceutical Grade Supplements.
What is the difference?
Food Grade – there are no absorption requirements, contaminants may be present (no pre-inspection requirement) and dosage can vary. Somtimes you are only getting 20% of what you need out of a supplement in a whole bottle!
Pharmaceutical Grade – Absorption required within 45 min, ingredients are inspected prior to production, and you get the exact dosage (100%).
Many of these women, who were on their last rope with things, were willing to try anything else if it meant an improvement in the quality of their lives. Some were skeptical when introduced to the idea of Usana. They moved forward to try Usana supplements because nothing else had worked to help them turn their health around. It was their last resort. Their testimonials were very moving.
One of the big things about Usana products is that they are Pharmaceutical Grade quality. Which is likely a big reason changes were seen in these women. I am huge on anything going into my body being high quality.
If you or anyone else you know has any unresolved health issue, Usana may be the right answer for you. As I like to say, don’t knock it unless you try it. As well, health issues sometimes take a long time to develop, so you also need to be taking a supplement for a while to let the ongoing effects take hold. I talked all about “why belly dance” and realized I never really shared my story with you about how I got into belly dance and how it developed for me. This is the short version of a lot of years.
Once upon a time when I was still working as a Medical Secretary at Women’s College Hospital, there was a very well known Belly Dance School in Toronto called Arabesque Academy which at the time was located on my walk from the subway to the hospital. One day I said to my best friend and a close work friend, lets go try belly dance! The work friend bailed on us, but my best friend went with me. After one class we were hooked!! This came at the perfect time for me because the guy i was dating had just broke up with me and I needed somewhere or something to help me through the healing process. Belly dance was perfect for that.
We took classes for a few years, did recitals, made other friends there, and then started an amateur dance troupe for fun. Over the years I trained with a few different dancers at this school. Later I ventured out and studied with Roula Said at Om Laila, and at what was once Hannan’s Belly Dance Studio and later became Egyptian Dance Academy.
Somewhere along the way I went back to University for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. My friends there got wind of the fact that I was learning to belly dance and asked if I would teach them. So i figured, sure, I could show them some basics, and i wouldn’t charge a lot, but enough to make sure i could pay rent for a studio on the University Campus. People loved it, and if i remember correctly, I taught them more than once.
It was at that point that I realized, maybe i wanted to get a bit more serious about belly dancing and teaching belly dance. I told my significant other at that point that i was thinking about trying to find a belly dance/middle eastern dance teacher certification. I found this amazing internationally renowned dancer on google – Hadia. She had a 3 level middle eastern dance teacher training course. Level 1 was all the way out in Victoria, B.C. I told my best friend about it and asked her if she wanted to go. We went out there together. It was one of the best things I ever did. Over the years, I continued to complete level 2 and then level 3 to get the whole certification. I also spent two weeks during two summers in her intensive Professional Course. It was hard work, and I felt most dancers were more advanced than me at least the first year. But I toughed it out, and feel I gained so much. I also had fun travelling to different parts of Canada to do this!
I went on to teach actual belly dance course sessions and workshops and developed my own dance troupe in to a company later on with Belly Dancers and Flamenco Dancers. Everyone’s lives got busy, so i shut down the dance company. Off and on i would go back to either teaching belly dance or performing belly dance. I don’t perform belly dance that often any more. Last time was at a Purim Event a couple years ago, and most recent as a birthday gift to a close flamenco friend of mine this past weekend.
I also off and on taught some drop in classes at a private gym I was doing personal training out of. After another long break, I am bringing belly dance back under my Fitness Business – KellyKinetics.

Why would someone want to belly dance you may ask?
Well, there are so many reasons why people should bellydance!
If you are worried about it being a sexual thing, don’t worry, its less sexual than it is sensual in its movements. Originally the history of belly dance started as a dance developed by women for women.
Although there are misconceptions about what belly dance really is, be assured, and anyone can correct me, but it only became sexualized by men. Funnily enough, now belly dance has taken the entire world by storm and there are amazing male belly dancers as well. That being said, I welcome everyone into my classes.
If you are worried about showing your midsection? Guess what?! You don’t have to unless you feel comfortable doing so. In belly dance classes, you can wear whatever you feel comfortable in. You can wear a full length tank top or t-shirt, or you can wear something showing your midsection. The main thing is, no matter the level of coverage, it should be form fitting so as your belly dance instructor, I can properly see your body movements.
If you decide to start performing in small student shows or even professionally one day, that’s another level and even there, there are options on coverage level. Main point here is, do not let this stop you from learning. I want my students to be comfortable coming to class.

Starting your fitness journey doesn’t always need to start in the gym.
The way i teach belly dance (based on Hadia’s Amazing Body Logic System), you learn what muscles create certain belly dance moves, how these muscles are meant to work to create those movements and in turn you develop a greater sense of body awareness. So many people’s brains are detached from their bodies. I help you reconnect mind and body through belly dance. The methods I use to teach with, also provide the body with a nice massage!
2. learning what it can do for your overall mind, body and soul.
Once you start to see how my methods to teach this dance art work, and you get more comfortable and confident in your abilities, you will see how belly dance starts to collectively affect your mind body and soul positively. I haven’t met a person yet, including myself, that this has not happened to.
3. learning that every person’s body, mind and soul is unique and so belly dance will empower each of you in a different way
I think this is self explanatory. Every individual is unique. I expect feedback on this to be very different for everyone .
4. learning about your strengths and weaknesses and having the courage to work on weaknesses in order to build them into strengths
Learning anything new will allow this to happen, but I find learning how your body works is an excellent avenue for this type of growth.
5. getting a great workout in a fun, safe and friendly environment
6. allowing yourself to learn about a new culture while having fun and making friends
7. allowing yourself to use your body for something it was built to do BELLY DANCE

Its been a while since i have written anything in my blog. Yet again, there is a ton going on! I am working hard towards developing the online side of my KellyKinetics business. I am working with 2 different coaches whose focuses are different so that I can progress my business in the best possible way. One is Cherene Francis a phenomenal Branding and Marketing Coach and the other is RU Anderson an amazing Personal Trainer who took the years of trial and error to develop a successful system for trainers to be successful online coaches.
