My Interview with Hey Latino TV

A couple weekends ago I jumped out of my comfort zone and in front of a TV camera!

The whole second half of this year, I have decided that I am going to continually find and put myself into uncomfortable but positive situations. I figure the more I jump out of my comfort zone, the more opportunities that will come to me, and the more successful I will become in developing my business and in developing myself in general.

I invite you to check out this video. I have set it up to start just as they are introducing the organization that I am involved with. “You and I for a better world”.

You and I for a Better World (Help for Health) is a non-profit organization which has been established to deliver medical treatments to low income citizens in worldwide. The primary focus is on low income individuals in the world who due to economic disparities, social neglect or political injustice are unable to seek medical treatment for life threatening ailments.

Through them there is a project called the Kindness Project where we run different events based in health/wellness/fitness/dance etc. These events are free to the public to take take part in group services. We plan to run these events on a regular basis. People do not have to pay to attend, but if they like what “You and I for a better world” stands for and offers, people are welcome to provide donations (no set amount necessary).

The program is in Spanish, my interview answers are in English translated back into Spanish. Unfortunately they spelled my last name wrong. The interviewer said my name right. I have asked the person I have contact with to talk with whoever did the editing to see if they can fix this. If they do, I will provide a new link. But its time to share now.

Exercise of the Day : Dead Bug

Exercise of the Day – DEAD BUG
 
Many people tell me that they are very interested in boosting their core strength. Today I am going to share what could possibly be one of the most important core exercises the majority of people should be doing.
 
It’s one of those exercises that looks like nothing….but if done correctly you should feel an absolute torture! (Maybe not as much in the beginner versions shown on this video…but later.
The importance is that this core exercise works on teaching people how to “brace”, which becomes very important with everything else down the road.

It is on my list of things to accomplish that I will work towards having my own you tube videos on my YouTube channel KellyKinetics, but until then I search for and try to provide people with links to other professionals that know what they are talking about.

Mind Body Connection

A big part of what I try to accomplish when I train people is to ensure they achieve a mind body connection. Too many people walk through life totally disconnected from their body. I force people to reconnect and develop a relationship between their mind and body which ends up being really good for the soul too!

I ask, “where are you feeling this?”, “can you feel your ___________ working?”, “How did that feel?” This forces people  to start making that connection. If they didn’t notice during the first set, I ask them to pay attention in their second and third sets.

In addition, me asking them these questions allows me to also tweak an exercise based on what they are or are not feeling. In some cases, I may need to add an activation exercise so clients learn to feel what a particular muscle feels like in isolation before putting it to use in a fully integrated exercise.

Going through the motions is not enough to gain results. You must be mindful in everything in order to reap the greatest benefits.

You know you are fully connected when you can create an intense full activation of a muscle by doing a particular movement even without any weights at all! You have reached a “higher level of kung-fu” when you can turn muscles off and on at the flip of a switch. Now imagine that activation with weights…holy, moly!!!!

Self Awareness = Self Control

How aware are you of whether you are full at a meal or not?

How aware are you of whether you really want that dessert, need that dessert, crave that dessert or just need something to do?

Having been in the fitness industry acting as a role model for other people and having been through my own transformation in the past I have a very good handle on this now.

One of the most interesting things to me was my latest vacation to Cuba for the New Year.

In the past I would go to all inclusive resorts and eat more than one plate of food at every meal and go crazy on dessert….If you think about it, All inclusive is kind of like going to an all you can eat buffet …..except now, its all the alcohol you can drink, all the food you can eat. One can take it to the extreme…haha.

This time around, I think because i was in a much more relaxed state (I only used my phone to text maybe 2 days out of 8, and the rest of the time I took pictures), I slowed everything down.

I literally sauntered everywhere. I sat and didn’t rush my meals. I slowed down how often my fork touched my mouth. I slowed down to talk, I slowed down to say hello to the resident cats. Then when my plate was empty I drank my coffee/juice and waited. Sometimes I got up for a little extra, sometimes I didn’t. It was a choice made solely on if I was really still hungry or if I was satisfied or not. I didn’t just blindly get up to get another plate because its already paid for in my all inclusive.

Only 2 out of 7 nights I ate dessert. All the other days I didn’t really care to have anything. One of the desserts was at the a la carte meal, the other was a night when the desserts looked especially special. Otherwise I was able to look at them, by pass them and move on.

I think the main thing is, here at home, we are always going, sometimes on high speed. If your lifestyle is high speed, it would make it very hard to be self aware and demonstrate self control. Take some time to slow down even if its not a vacation. Take some “me” time and start to tune in and see what you can learn about yourself, and see if that helps you to make some lifestyle changes for the better.
