Quality Versus Quantity

I was on quite a roll for a while with sending out email campaigns to my mailing list, creating new blogs, and working on website content. Then I had to stop. For a couple weeks I felt that if I sent any emails out, tried to produce any new blogs or continue working on website content that it would not be good quality.
My mind just wasn’t in the head-space that was required to develop good quality content.  Anything I create I have to think is fairly permanent, and so it has to be good. It does not make sense, pushing out loads of stuff if it doesn’t come out as my authentic self, sincere and sounds like I actually care. 

This is a lesson for everyone. Quality far outweighs Quantity. 
However, if a person’s mind set is in the right place, it is entirely possible to push out Quantity with Quality.

Think about your own lives. How have you fared with this? We all have different lives, careers, personal lives etc. Do you ever sacrifice quality for quantity? Do you know how to step back and assess what is going on and know that sometimes it is OK to just stop and take care of yourself?

I have re-developed my ability to tap into my deep gut intuition, and it told me to just stop all work on my business (back end work). For the past couple weeks I have just been working in my business training my clients, but not pushing myself to work on all the behind the scenes stuff so much. When my feelings are geared this way, I go to work, I workout, I go to all the classes I take because they are part of how I stay healthy and true to myself and sane. Healthy nutrition, quality sleep and doing things to pamper yourself are all important too. 

When I first make the decision to step back, I usually get really stressed out because I feel like, OMG, I will get behind, I won’t be able to grow my business fast enough, OMG OMG OMG….hahaha. Yeah you see, how the mind works? The mind is powerful…it can make or break you. And if you decide to keep on going when you shouldn’t, that is when you actually sacrifice quality work.
In the end, sacrificing quality work is a sacrifice in moving yourself forward in anything you do whether you own your own business, whether its a school project, or anything else important. If you give yourself the time to work through whatever it is you need to do to get yourself back to a healthy state of mind, you’ve already won. You are already further ahead than you would have been had you tried to pump out quantity at the expense of quality and your health.

So, this is how we will be starting June. I want everyone to think about their current mental, physical, emotional and spiritual levels. Are they all at a 10 out of 10?? If not, what do you need to do to shift your scores to the right so they become a 10 out of 10?

There is MORE to the CORE

If you are looking to get amazing abs, there are far more effective exercises to be doing than crunches. I could run a whole course on why this is so, and what you should be doing instead. But this is just a post to get you thinking and to realize that there is far more to the core than meets the eye. 

When I was looking for a picture to go with this post, it was difficult because I thought, most people will expect a picture of someone’s six pack, but that’s not all the core is. I could use a picture of someone doing a sport or an exercise, but that still doesn’t truly represent the core. Some people might think, well what does someone with a body that looks like that have to do with me, or, I will never do that sport or never be able to do that move, so why will I identify with that picture?

This is why I chose this Photo. These two men doing what they are doing has nothing to do with anything most of you will likely ever do, and yet it has everything to do with every part of the core that is involved plus much more in your bodies and so is very relevant for everyone. 

Get ready, I have a major news flash! haha!! Some of you may already know this. Our core is made up of many parts, and our entire trunk from about the glutes up to the shoulder girdle is ALL Core! The full front and back! If you train your body only in isolation, you will do your body a disservice. You could seriously injure yourself either with an acute injury or through repetition cause a chronic injury and/or serious postural issues. There is so much more to say, but its really something that needs more time spent to teach people about. 

I will return to this picture. Man #1 requires overall core stability and strength in order to support man #2 on his shoulders. He also needs flexibility and mobility. Not only that, but he needs full body stabilization through large muscle groups and small stabilizer muscles within the main core unit and the rest of the body (and you know man #2’s end goal is to totally stand up tall on top of man #1. Who knows…maybe he is even planning a crazy flip or something!). Man #2 needs everything man #1 has, plus the added requirement of balance. Another news flash….balance and stability are not one in the same, and you can’t have one without the other. These need to be trained differently.  Both man #1 and #2 need the ability to use different breathing techniques in conjunction with how they use their overall core unit in order to execute what they are doing or are about to do.

So everyone, if you don’t train your full core unit, and the entire body in an INTEGRATED way, no amount of isolation exercises is going to do you any favors. What good is a body if it can’t move well?! If you train for functionality for activities of daily living, or for a sport or activity you may do, the side effect is great looking abs and body (provided you support proper training with proper nutrition). 

You may be wondering now, how do I start to get myself working towards the right things?

Are you thinking, OH MAN….. I had no idea the body was that complicated, and now I think I have no idea what I am doing when I go to the gym, and no wonder I am not seeing any changes in my body!

AIM HIGH – An Amazing Short FILM

Amazing Short Horror Film!

Where to start!!? First I am happy that I met Daniel McGuire a few years back through Muay Thai. But unbeknownst to me, I found out, he is also a horror movie buff. And not only does he enjoy horror movies, but it also turns out he writes and directs short films of this genre. Back when we met he told me all about this horror movie he was working on. I can’t actually remember if it was another movie or his current one AIM HIGH. I just know, that off and on, I would always ask him how the progress on his movie was going.

For those of you who don’t know me that well…. I LOVE HORROR MOVIES!!! At Halloween, I used to always watch all the Halloween specials, and horror movies…

Now, into my adulthood, all of October, I watch at least 1 horror movie per night. It is the way I celebrate Halloween every year now. I even go to Horror Movie Festivals!

I felt very honoured to be one of a smaller circle of people to get to view AIM HIGH in its final editing phase. And now, to have just seen a private screening tonight of it as a feature short film was so exciting!!

What can I say!!?? I thought this movie was amazing! What else can I say without giving to much away!???

I really enjoyed the suspense that was developed from beginning to end. I felt there was a lot of creativity not only with set, music, lighting etc., but also with use of the ongoing conversations going on in the minds of the characters involved. If you like dark humour like me, it was HILARIOUS at moments that were perfect! I also really like the actors that were chosen for this movie. Not only are they talented, but I love how expressive their faces are, especially Rebekka Gondosch and Michael Pearson. In particular their eyes!!

Daniel McGuire and the rest of the AIM HIGH team will be starting their festival run in June! They have submitted their short film into a variety of Film Festivals both locally, provincial, nationally, and internationally!

AIM HIGH has been officially selected to screen at this years Calgary Horror Con, Canada’s first and largest Convention dedicated to Horror!! Talk about exciting…I wonder if I can manage to find a way to go!!??

Congratulations Daniel, and congrats to all the rest of the AIM HIGH Team!

Trust the wait!

I am sure at some point in your life and maybe even many times in your life you have been put into a position where all you can do is wait.

How you choose to spend that wait time is up to you.

My suggestion is, sure wait, but don’t put your life on hold for anything or anyone.

Spend time doing things that are meaningful to you. Reconnect with friends, try something new. Enjoy life!!!

Main thing is, try not to get stuck in a negative downward spiral feeling like life can’t continue until whatever or whoever you are waiting on is ready for the next move, next idea or next step, whatever that may be.

When things are “ready” they will happen

It’s like waiting for a pot to boil….lol. It will boil when the temperature is hot enough …..

Life wouldn’t be life without these moments. Embrace it, and enjoy what happens when you do

My experience with the Usana 5 day RESET

Yesterday I did a Facebook Live talking about my experience with the 5 day Reset through Usana. I am going to provide you with a You Tube Link so you can hear what I have to say. What a difference 5 days can make!!

I forgot to mention in my video about the women who talked about their stories where they had dealt with serious health issues almost their whole lives, always wondering no matter what supplements they took (and they took everything you can imagine recommended), why nothing seemed to work.

So often people will tell me about digestive issues, bloating etc (because they drink shakes/ green drinks etc. ALL the time).  Another thing is, if you have digestive issues or didn’t lose weight on a shake system it could be because of what your shakes/meal replacements are made of.  Usana’s FREE shakes are gluten free, dairy free, and made with NON-GMO plant protein. As well, if you do a shake system and add extra things into your shake, you must recalculate how much you can have in other snacks through the day.    Myself I just do the plain shake and have the snacks. Sometimes I add extra to my snacks or add an extra snack because although the Usana 5-day RESET suggests moderate exercise, that’s not me. Nothing I do is moderate intensity level, so i must adjust the plan to suit my caloric needs. But guess what?! I am still losing weight, and I never feel hungrier than i normally do when I am just eating normal.

The 5 day RESET is great for curbing cravings for sugar! I have found all my cravings have been curbed (yes, even trainers get cravings!) You also have a daily probiotic with it as well supplement with necessary micronutrients needed for excellent cellular health.           

I plan to report on my results soon! My 5th day was on Friday May 3rd!

Meal Planning 101

Meal Planning. What can I say about meal planning/meal prep?

A lot of clients just starting out don’t even know where to begin. Along with all the other lifestyle changes that need to happen when choosing to learn about and develop a healthier lifestyle, meal prep can be quite a daunting task! But, it doesn’t have to be. I will share some basic tips to help you to get started.

  1. Set aside time during the week to decide what you would like to eat the following week for all your meals and snacks. Lay it out on your computer/phone in a chart, spreadsheet or a piece of paper (whatever suits you best).
  2. Make your grocery list
  3. Decide where you are going to schedule time in for grocery shopping and meal prep on your calendar and keep those days and times consistent.
  4. Go grocery shopping which may include buying containers to both store food and carry food with you to work/class.
  5. Start meal prep.

Some people buy enough to prep for the entire week. Some people who have meal prep down to a T may even meal prep twice a week, making enough at the beginning of the week up until say Wednesday, then Wednesday making enough to last until Saturday.

There are so many other details involved in Meal Planning and Prepping, but these are some guidelines to get you started. When you can be organized in your meals, your workouts/training sessions with your trainer, and everything else, become that much easier and you will see more consistent and faster results because you are consistent with your nutritional intake.
